Fundraising
Omar's suicide was a tragedy both devastating and preventable. We are determined to support and promote the work being done to save the lives of men like Omar, who might otherwise be lost to suicide. Our heartbreak must not be in vain.
Within days of losing Omar we discovered a charity called James’ Place. Providing free, life saving treatment to men in suicidal crisis in London, Liverpool and Newcastle, it felt like the perfect charity to support in Omar's honour. We asked those attending his funeral if they could make a donation to the charity.

Since then, a large amount of money has been raised for James' Place in Omar's memory. Some from funeral donations and much more from sponsored fundraising events:
Omar's university friend and housemate Jon ran a marathon in his memory, raising an astonishing £18,139 (£21,180 including Gift Aid) for James Place.
Omar's university lecturer Rachel, completed the Born Survivor challenge with a group of friends raising £1748 (£2112 including Gift Aid) for James Place in memory of Omar and other friends lost to suicide.

Our dear family friends Katie and Elliot got married in July 2024. With incredible generosity and kindness, they requested donations to James’ Place in Omar’s memory, rather than receive wedding gifts. So far they have raised £2430 (£3037 including Gift Aid) for James’ Place
Yoga teacher Halina Harbuz held a sponsored Sound Bath in Omar’s memory on Sunday the 11th of August 2024. Although she never knew Omar, she was moved enough by his story to fundraise in his honour, for which we are so grateful to her. So far she has raised £583 (£716 including Gift Aid) for James’ Place.
